Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ – our Lord & God. The honour we give to her is based on the fact that God chose her as the instrument through which His Son came in to the world.
She is the woman whose seed crushed the head of the serpent, the New Eve (cf Gen 3:15). She is a human being but she enjoys a deep union with God: she is a favoured daughter of God the Father, mother of God the Son and spouse of God the Holy Spirit (cf. Lk 1:26-38). No one is greater than her but God.
Despite this lofty position, she is our mother too. Perhaps most important for us mothers & mothers-to-be, she went through the different stages of motherhood that we also go through. By walking with her, we will have the strength & graces we need to fulfil our own motherhood vocation.
As the mediatrix of all grace, Mary obtains for us all the graces we need from her Son. The Rosary is a powerful way to ask for those graces.
This reflection will help us to understand Mary’s motherhood vocation better and so get the inspiration we need to live our own motherhood vocation.
